Synopsis Steve BUTLER (starring Matt DAMON) works for a natural gas development company and Sue THOMASON(starring Fraces MCDORMAND) is a negotiation specialist who seeks locations scheduled for development to acquire residents’ permission to develop their property. The place they end up in is the rural “McKinley” village haunted by recession. Although Steve and Sue anticipate an easy takeover, things don’t turn out the way they want when Frank YATES, a school teacher well-respected in the community opposes to the company’s proposition. And to make matters worse, a self-proclaimed environmental activist, Dustin NOBLE joins in to complicate things even more. Moreover, Steve faces considerable conflict when he discovers that he has developed feelings for another school teacher, Alice.

Gus Van SANT once was an iconic figure of American independent films and after the 2000s he put his name among the world masters of cinema. Van SANT made his feature film directorial debut in 1985 with Mala Noche. He made his name in Korea with My Own Private Idaho (1991) starring River PHOENIX. His film about a school shooting, Elephant won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. He received an Oscar nomination as best director in 1998 for Good Will Hunting and 10 years later for Milk.
