Trailer
Program Note This documentary explores the environmental and economic imbalances related to coal from multiple perspectives. Once a primary fossil fuel, coal and coal mines were the driving force behind Korea’s rapid economic growth and miners took pride in being “heroes of industrialization.” Now the coal industry is being phased out as a main culprit of the climate crisis, but coal-fired power plants continue to be built in underdeveloped areas, and pollution has become a responsibility of local residents. The film takes a comprehensive look at the history of coal and brings attention to the complex issues surrounding environmental problems caused by coal, regional imbalances, and the urgency of moving away from coal as a transnational issue.
