Program Note Another ‘NONFIX’ series broadcast in 1991. A Nagano elementary school starts a curriculum that requires first graders to raise a calf. 9 months in, this program attracts public attention through various news coverage. Two years later, the filmmaker visits the school where the students, 3rd grader now are raising another calf. They learn math by calculating the cost to buy feed, and during the course of figuring out what the calf eats and how she gets pregnant, they learn biology, and the principles of nature and reproduction. Known for his superb direction of child actors, filmmaker KORE-EDA’s talent once again shines in this film.
