| Synopsis | World War III breaks out and radiation shrouds the entire earth following a nuclear war. The protagonist, who has a memory of a woman’s face that he saw on the observation platform of an airport and the death of a man, travels back and forth between the past and the future to find a way to save the human race from a crisis. A philosophical sci-fi film by Chris Marker, a poet, film director, and photographer, La Jetée poses complex questions about time and memory, living organisms on earth, civilization and progress and is considered one of the most well-made, influential, and radical sci-fi films to date which was later remade as 12 Monkeys by Terry Gilliam, greatly impacting the destruction of the earth genre. |
